Isolite Block Moulded

The Isolite division of Isowall produces Expanded Polystyrene for a wide range of uses including insulation, light-weight fillers and semi-rigid cushioning. There are two methods for producing EPS products:

  • Block moulding
    This involves moulding a large block of EPS (typically 5.0 x 1.25 x 1.05) and then cutting sheets, shapes and pieces from the block using a hot wire.
  • Shape moulding
    This involves manufacturing a customized mould for the product to be manufactured and then producing products as needed. See our article on shape moulded products for more information.

Versatility of EPS


EPS has excellent thermal properties and is used in applications such as cold rooms, deep freeze facilities, refrigeration, fermentation tanks, vessels and for pipe and duct lagging.


The purpose of packaging is to protect goods on their way from the manufacturer to the consumer. Due to its excellent cushioning properties, heat resistance and limitless design possibilities, EPS is used for protective packaging in a variety of industries such as industrial, pharmaceutical, retail etc.

EPS is particularly suitable for fresh food packaging and transportation since it is shock resistant, non-toxic, odourless and does not attract insects or bacteria.

Art & Display

EPS is also used for publicity and sales promotion packaging, as many different decorative effects are easily achieved. EPS is easily painted using acrylic PVA applied by either spray or brush, and is easily cut and worked using conventional hand tools


In the construction business, EPS sheets and boards are used for thermal and sound insulation in walls, roofs and on floors, while loose beads are used as an aggregate in lightweight concrete, plasters and renderings. Other uses include under floor heating systems, drainage boards, permanent formwork, foundation and prefabricated wall systems.

Since EPS remains unaffected by micro-organisms in soil, it is ideal for geothermic insulation beneath roads, around foundations and in embankments where it prevents soil break-up through freezing.


Because of its strength, shock-absorbing properties as well as its versatility, EPS is also used for a variety of recreational applications such as bicycle helmets and surf-boards.

Examples And Usage Of EPS Sheets And Blocks

Sheets can be cut to exact specifications and are used for insulation and packaging.

Shapes of any kind can be cut and reproduced exactly. These are used for architectural purposes as well as adverts and displays.

Lagging of any specified diameter can be cut for insulation of pipes and tanks.

Manufactured Packaging can be produced by cutting and gluing for low volume items.

ISO-LAM Products

ISO-LAM is an EPS product. The standard EPS sheets are used to manufacture an insulating panel with a PVC facing laminated on one side. Iso-LAM panels are available in thicknesses from 40mm to 75mm. Standard lengths are 600, 1200, 2400, 3600 and 4800 with a standard width of 1200mm.

ISO-LAM products are used for the insulation of roofs, ceilings and walls.

Panels of Iso-LAM are available in 2 different moulded patterns: Stucco and Timber grain. Different PVC fittings are available.

ISO-LAM insulating panels are ideal for insulating roofs, ceilings and walls whilst providing a permanent maintenance free internal surface.

ISO-LAM panels consist of Isolite Fire Retardant EPS sheets laminated on one face with a PVC skin.

Technical Information

Thermal: EPS has excellent thermal properties and the thermal resistance "R" of the panels range from 1.1 for 40mm panels to 3.7 for 120mm panels. The maximum working temperature of ISO-LAM panels is 80°C

Fire: ISO-LAM panels have been tested by an independent testing authority and have been classified as class B / B1 / 2 / H&V. This means that from a fire safety point of view ISO-LAM may be used in all industrial and commercial buildings as an under-roof and side cladding insulation material.

Moisture: ISO-LAM panels are non-hygroscopic and not affected by moisture.

General: ISO-LAM panels are not affected by bacteria, mould or fungi and have no nutrient value for insects, birds or vermin. They will remain effective as an insulant for the life of the building.

Environmentally Friendly

ISO-LAM panels are non-toxic and washable, making them suitable for use in food production environments.

Expanded polystyrene can be recycled in many ways and ISOLITE recycles all EPS scrap.

Product Range

Two different moulding patterns are available with standard colours being white and marble. Other colours are available for large contracts.

ISO-LAM panels are available in thicknesses from 40mm to 120mm.

Standard lengths are 600, 1200, 2400, 3600 and 4800mm with the standard width of 1200mm.
